Winter's Ruin Metal Fest
The Ante Room
Death Shroud – Grim, dark and furious music from the bowels of Blacksburg, Va; cold, chilling black metal for hateful times. For fans of 1349 and Watain.
Throaat – Hailing from Brooklyn, NY, Throaat plays raw, high octane first-wave-influenced black metal in the vein of Venom, Bathory, and Celtic Frost.
Salvaticus – Bleak black metal in the hands of rural Virginians geographically separated from the cold Scandinavian terrain from whence it spawned. It’s a little less wintry and a little more mysterious here. Compositions designed to project intensity and fantastical, unreal destinations.
Surgeon – “[Surgeon] combines disparate militaristic feel with hummable orchestrated melodies is analogous to how this proggy collective combines the oft-impenetrable, old-school trundle of Slough Feg with the jovial thrash of Ghoul” – Decibel Magazine
Heavy Burner – Fronted by Ian Williamson (of Evil Eye) with Warren Hawkins (of Valkyrie) on drums and Sean Stinson on guitar, Heavy Burner is a three-piece from Central Virginia that draws from their influences from 60s and 70s psychedelic rock to punk and metal.
Heavy Temple – Fronted by the ethereal (yet indomitable) High Priestess Nighthawk and supported by unholy cohorts Arch Bishop Barghest and Sister Tempestas, Heavy Temple plays psychedelic, trance-inducing, ritualistic doom. Come drink evil honey from a magic mountain and worship at the Heavy Temple.
Horseburner – Stoner metal. Sludge. Doom rock. Call it what you will, Parkersburg, West Virginia’s Horseburner creates riff-heavy rock n’ roll to shake your insides. Stay dirty.
Lamaze – Heavy yet melodic, Lamaze is a new three piece instrumental metal band taking Charlottesville by storm. For fans of Isis & Pelican.
