Horsefang – Melodic doom from the rolling hills of the Monticello area.
Borracho – Washington DC’s Borracho exploded onto the stoner rock scene in 2011 with the release of their debut Splitting Sky, which was lauded with superlatives like “instant classic” and “must-listen.” The album was named to ten 2011 best-of-year lists and earned the band a reputation as serious riff-slingers. It showcased the band’s songwriting talents, epic arrangements, and an uncanny ability to craft memorable hooks. Since then the band has cultivated a strong following in the States and abroad, with multiple 7” and 10” vinyl single releases in 2012 and 2013. Their latest offering Oculus spotlights a band hitting its stride, with the confidence to take on all challenges ahead and have a good time doing it. The album reinforces the impressions made thus far, and continues to show growth and progression from a band doing it on their own terms.
Heavy Burner – Heavy Burner is a three piece band from Central Virginia. Formed in 2010, the band draws from their influences ranging from 60s and 70s psychedelic rock to punk and metal. After three years of live performances prone to off the cuff jams and ear-bleeding volumes, the band recorded with Matt Singleton at Singleton Studios in Charlottesville, Va. in March of 2013. Their debut is a good representation of the band’s diverse and wide range of soundscapes. From the swelling, thunderous narration of surfing misadventures on “Hang Loose” to the dreamy drug trance of “Mother Pearl”, these tracks are indicative of a raw, stripped down band on the verge of a new interpretation of heavy music.
Birmingham Six – Birmingham Six (five members actually) take their name from the six men wrongfully jailed for the Birmingham Pub bombings in 1974 and have been performing for audiences since 2006. With two full length releases, Iron Rations – 2008 and The Kessel Run – 2012, the Six put on an energetic, tight live performance that has allowed them to be a supporting band for many internationally touring acts that include Derek Warfield and the Young Wolftones, The Wolftones and The Tossers. They have been called “the indie rock band of Irish music” as they mix original music with their own arrangements of traditional Irish songs in their live shows. Birmingham Six’s latest 2014 release, Move On, is their first all original and long awaited full length album.
